Assistant Principal Jackson Nyamwange
Dear Team Young Families,
Welcome to the start of the 2024-2025 School year!! We begin a new school year, and I am excited about the possibilities and high hopes for this year, as should all of you. For those who may not know my background, I am a product of the Jersey City Public School system. I began my education at PS # 33 before finishing my grammar school experience at PS #38 and ultimately attended Lincoln High School. I was fortunate to participate in William Paterson University for my undergraduate degree in History and Master of Arts in Teaching. I continued my graduate studies at Seton Hall University and received a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. I was fortunate to start my career right here with the Whitney M. Young Family as a Middle School Social Studies/Science teacher before I had the opportunity to return to my alma mater (Lincoln High School) to teach high social Studies. I returned home to Whitney M. Young Jr in 2023 to help our students continue the pursuit of excellence in the role of assistant principal.
Gearing up for another school year, we are provided an opportunity to start the academic year with a fresh start and a chance to set new goals and strive to reach our fullest potential. We welcome a new group of learners in Pre-K, while a new group of leaders emerge in the form of 8th graders as their grammar school experience comes to a close. We encourage our students to come with expectations of success, and as a school, it’s our responsibility to not only help you reach those expectations, but to also exceed them.
Anyone can achieve great things with a positive attitude, a growth mindset, and good character. Here at the Whitney M. Young Jr. Community School, we strive to instill those qualities in our young people and provide positive role models. Our goal is to provide a safe and nurturing educational environment that challenges our staff and students to be their best!
While there may be challenges ahead, it is essential to recognize that they are there to give us a chance to build character, learn, and grow. At the Whitney M. Young Jr. Community School, we can help one another achieve our goals and dreams. Students should reach beyond their expectations and become lifelong learners who will improve the world.
I am thrilled about the possibilities this school year holds and honored to be part of Team Young! Let’s come together to build, love, grow, and achieve at the Whitney M. Young Jr. Community School. I can't wait to see what we will accomplish together in this exciting new school year!
Stay positive and stay strong,
Dr. Jackson Nyamwange
